In our Cincinnati and Florence Kentucky weight loss clinics I am often asked “Is intermittent fasting safe?” I believe this question comes up often because intermittent fasting is often a significant departure from the thinking of “3 square meals per day” or the thought that five small meals a day will help you lose weight faster. In my opinion, however, intermittent fasting is one of the safest and most effective ways to lose weight. Intermittent fasting also helps you convert body fat so that the majority of weight that you lose is fat tissue.
There is, in my opinion, only one exception to this rule. I tell my weight loss patients in Cincinnati and Florence Kentucky that they should not be doing intermittent fasting if they are pregnant or nursing. This is due to the restrictions, at different times of the day, in calorie intake. Of course, before significantly changing your diet you should speak to a professional to make absolutely certain that it is the right change for you.
